The Micro-Holiday Trend

Instead of one long summer holiday, many working adults now take four or five "micro-holidays" spread across the year — usually Friday-to-Monday trips.

Booking data shows short hotel stays up 38% since 2022. Airlines are adding Thursday flights to resort towns that once saw mostly weekend traffic.

Supporters say it spreads rest across the calendar and reduces the pre-vacation stress spike. Critics argue it never offers full mental recovery from work.

Whichever camp you pick, the week-long "proper" holiday is quietly declining. For many families, three-day escapes have simply replaced it.
