Mid-sized cities are building fully separated bike highways connecting suburbs to . These paths are paved, lit, and snow-plowed in winter, with signals timed for cyclists.
Daily bike commuting in cities with such corridors has roughly doubled since 2023. E-bikes extend the range from 4 miles to 12 miles for average riders.
Employers are adding on-site showers, bike parking, and even for e-bike maintenance, similar to transit passes.
One study found that cycling commuters reported better mood and sleep than car commuters. The data is starting to redesign cities, one protected lane at a time.
