Silent retreats — three to ten days spent without speaking — are booking out years in advance. Demand is strongest among mid-career in knowledge industries.
Attendees surrender their phones, laptops, and small talk. Days are structured around meditation, walks, and meals eaten without conversation.
Every participant I interviewed described an unexpected benefit: their inner monologue quieted too. The background noise of unspoken opinion, lists, and social scripts faded.
