The International Food Festival

Our school holds an international food festival every spring. Families cook dishes from their home countries and bring them to share.

My mom made her famous scallion pancakes. The Indian family next door brought fragrant chicken curry and three kinds of bread.

I tried Ethiopian injera, Polish pierogi, and a spicy Mexican mole — all for the first time. My stomach was heavy, my heart was light.
